Leather is a natural material, and therefore changes color and can dry out (and crack) if not cared for. If you take good care of your leather, it is a very durable material that remains beautiful even after prolonged use. We have therefore written a little about how to best care for your dog's leather equipment, as well as a small care guide.
What you need to pay attention to with leather:
Avoid water
Water, and especially salt water, is very hard on leather. If your dog does wear leather when in the water, it is extra important that it is rinsed free of salt water afterwards and then given leather care.
Does your dog pull a lot?
If your dog pulls a lot, the leather will give way, and it is also important that you add grease so that it retains its elasticity.
Colored leather
Water and use will eventually change the color of your leather. If you want your dog's leather products to look new for as long as possible, it is an advantage to choose leather that is not dyed, or is dyed in natural shades - as color changes here appear more natural.
Care Guide
Your dog uses his leash and collar many times a day, so you need to care for your leather equipment more than you think. With regular use, we recommend that you care for it every 3 - 6 months, depending on whether it dries out.
First clean the leather with a cloth to make sure there is no dirt on the leather. There is leather soap, but most often you can do it with water.
Once the leather is clean, wipe it with a dry cloth to remove any water. Then let it dry naturally.
When the leather is dry, massage the leather grease into the leather, this can be done with a dry cloth or your finger. The leather should be saturated and then dried naturally.
