Winter must-haves for you and your dog

Life as a dog owner means lots of fresh air and walks every day – and winter is no exception.

However, the cold and wet weather can make walking a bit of a chore. Luckily there are lots of products that can make life as a dog owner in winter a little easier (and make winter better for your dog too).

I have collected 10 winter must-haves for a dog owner, read more about them here

1. Paw wax

The road salt used in winter can be a painful experience for your dog. The salt can dry out the paws and cause cracks or wounds in the pads.

It’s important to apply preventative paw wax to your dog’s paws before heading out for a cold walk on salty roads.

The paw wax makes the pads more supple and resistant to the salt and reduces the risk of painful cuts and scratches.

2. Snout wax

Just as human hands can become drier in winter, the cold temperatures can also dry out your dog’s nose. With snout wax, you can prevent and protect your dog’s snout in winter. The stick makes it easy to apply the wax and you can easily carry it in your pocket on your walk.

The snout wax also has SPF, so your dog’s snout is protected from the sun’s rays all year round.

3. Dog jacket

Small dogs, dogs without undercoat and older dogs especially benefit from a warm blanket in winter. A chilled dog will catch a cold more quickly and may lose the desire to go outside.

Our dog jackets are adjustable, have harness access and, most importantly, are warm and waterproof.
Cloud7 jackets are also available in customized versions for dachshunds, French bulldogs, whippets and greyhounds.

Does your dog keep itself warm just fine? A rain jacket can still be helpful during the winter months when rain and sleet can make walking a muddy experience for both dog and owner.

4. Dog sweater

Not every dog or dog owner wants to bother with a dog jacket (and not every dog breed necessarily needs a very warm winter jacket)

But a sweater can work well when it’s cold anyway. Of course, our wool sweaters have all the great wool properties such as being self-cleaning, warm even when wet and naturally odorless.

Plus, they come in the finest colors and knit patterns

5. Safety lights

Winter means dark walks in the morning and evening. Whether your dog is off-leash in the countryside or on a leash in the city, a dog light increases safety for both of you.

The Orbiloc light is visible up to 5 km away, is waterproof and has a long battery life. You can choose whether you want the light to flash or stay on all the time.

6. Dog carrier bag

Are you one of those people who take the metro a bit more often in winter? Or maybe you have a small and chilly dog that doesn’t always want to venture out in too much snow and sleet?

If you have a small breed of dog, or a puppy, a dog bag is perfect for transporting your little four-legged friend in winter (and it’s free to take your dog on public transport if it fits in a bag)

7. Outdoor dog shoes

Dog shoes can be used both as preventative protection and as aftercare protection if your dog has scratches or wounds on the pads of its feet – for example as a result of salty and cold roads in winter.

The dog shoe reduces the risk of infection and your dog licking its wound during the day.

8. Blankets

A functional travel blanket or simply a warm cozy blanket will keep your dog safe at home and away – but can especially reduce dirt in the home after a walk.

Take the blanket (which smells like home) with you when you go on adventures and let your pup have his safe-space wherever you go.

I have become the dog owner who allows my dog to get up on both the bed and the sofa – but in the winter I have to have blankets for my dog to lie on, so it doesn’t get all dirty.

9. Drying gloves

Picture this – you’ve had a nice long walk in the meadow in tall damp and cold grass (maybe even in snowy weather) and now you’re going home to your newly cleaned home….

Whether you’re going straight into the shower or just drying off after a shower, the drying gloves make it much easier for both of you.

10. Scented spray

Let’s face it, it’s not every time you want to give your dog a bath just because they’ve been out in the rain and sleet. But no one thinks wet dogs should be sold in bottles, do they?

A scent spray is a winter essential – just the thing to take away the worst of the wet dog smell

Want your dog to smell like freshly laundered linen? Or of fresh spruce?
