The boring answer is when its bones have fused together (more precisely, the epiphyseal plates in the bones have closed) or when it is about 90% grown . When this happens depends on the breed and size. Puppies of smaller dog breeds are grown faster than puppies of large breeds.
As a general rule, you can divide dog breeds into 6 sizes - see the indicative table below.
| Kg. | Example of dog breed | Fully grown after |
| Under 5 kg. | Maltese, chihuahua, toy poodle | about 8 months |
| 5 - 10 kg. | Cavalier, Pug, Shih Tzu | about 10 months |
| 10 - 25 kg. | Cocker spaniel, French bulldog, staffordshire bull terrier | about 12 months |
| 25 - 40 kg. | Golden retriever, rottweiler, labrador | about 15 months |
| 45 + kg. | Mastiff, Great Dane, Bully | approximately 18-24 months |
Puppy food
It is super important that puppy food (and all other food) is correctly composed of good quality ingredients. Especially for the puppy, so that it gets the nutrients it needs while it grows.
A good puppy food has a higher energy content and contains more fat and protein than food for adult dogs.
Our most popular puppy food is this one from Acana, which is suitable for dogs of all breeds. It contains everything your puppy needs.

Dog food for small breed puppies
If your dog is not expected to weigh more than 10 kg when fully grown and is also a very small puppy, you can feed him small breed puppy food. It contains a little more fat, but otherwise the main difference is that the pellet size is smaller and therefore easier for the little ones to eat.

Puppy food for large breed dogs
If your puppy weighs more than 25 kg when fully grown, we recommend feeding it with puppy food for large breeds.
It is specially adapted to their needs, as puppies of large breeds must not grow too fast and therefore it is important to have a phosphorus-calcium balance. This is of course taken into account in the puppy food for dogs of large breeds. The food contains everything your puppy needs as it grows.
When you have a large puppy, it will almost always make the most sense to buy large bags (11.4 kg). Both because your puppy eats more than others, but importantly for you, because the price per kg is cheaper the more kg you buy.

Barf for puppies
You can easily feed your puppy with barf. Some breeders even use barf instead of dry food, and the puppy's stomach will therefore be used to raw food.
Please note, however, that Mush barf recommends that you start with Mush Green as a starter, and only when your puppy has gotten used to raw food should you switch to one of their puppy versions, Purple and Ice Blue.
Mush barf for puppies contains 10% bone, which is important for the puppy to develop its bones properly.
