Not all dogs thrive in the heat. Here are some tips on how to help your dog if it is having a hard time.
We also have a whole category of cooling products that you can buy from us in Hunni.
Cooling products
Cooling mat .

A cooling mat is great if your dog is struggling with the heat. The mat can be placed on the floor, in the basket or taken in the car when you are going for a drive.
The mat contains a gel that has a cooling effect for several hours. On very hot days, the mat can be placed in the refrigerator before giving it to the dog. It is a good idea to introduce the mat on a day when your dog is very hot, then he will quickly catch on to the trick.
A lot to drink !
Your dog should of course always have access to fresh water, but these days it is extra important that the water bowl is well filled. On really hot days the need for water may also arise on the trip, so it may be a good idea to have a to-go drinking bottle and/or foldable bowl.

Many dogs won't eat in the heat and it also happens that some dogs can't figure out how to drink enough water, even though they are incredibly hot. If you are having trouble getting anything in your dog, or you just want to make sure that he gets enough fluids, you can give your dog Bone Broth .
Remove fur from under the paws
Your dog sweats through their foot pads and cannot sweat through their skin. Therefore, they use their tongue to get rid of excess heat that they do not sweat out through their paws. It is therefore a good idea to trim their paws for fur during the summer. (In general, it is always more comfortable for your dog to be free of fur under their paws)
A walk on the beach or a cool bath.
Something that can really help your dog in the heat is a walk in the water. However, not all beaches allow you to take your dog with you, so it's a good idea to pay attention to the signs on the beach. A cool bath can also work wonders if you have a bit of a long way to the beach (you can actually "make do" with dipping their paws in cold water if the other option seems too overwhelming).
Evening trip.
Most people give their dog a nice long walk in the afternoon, but on hot summer days the walk can easily become too long and too hot. A tip is therefore to make the afternoon walk short and then take the long walk in the evening instead. Also be careful of your dog's paws on the hot asphalt - feel with your hand or foot.
Paws dry out easily in the summer, which can be remedied with a paw wax that you can buy here.
Dog ice cream or semi-thawed barf
Who doesn't love a cold ice cream? Your dog would probably love a cold ice cream too, you can both run ice cream kits and ice trays where you can make your own dog ice cream, e.g. with bone broth.

An alternative to dog ice cream is barf - both the food and snacks. Barf are frozen meatballs made from raw meat, and you can easily take a meatball out of the freezer and serve it to your dog. If your dog struggles with the heat, you can simply let the meatball thaw for half an hour to an hour, so that it is extra cold. In the store at Christianshavn you can buy MUSH barf
