How to care for your dog's teeth – and why it's important
Many dog owners underestimate the importance of dental care, but healthy teeth are essential for your dog's well-being and quality of life. Untreated plaque and tartar can lead to painful dental problems, bad breath and, in the worst case, serious infections.
Here you will find a guide on how to best care for your dog's teeth - and which products we recommend.
Why is dental care important for dogs?
Just like in humans, bacteria in a dog's mouth form plaque, which over time can harden into tartar. This can lead to gum disease, tooth loss and general discomfort. Poor oral hygiene can even affect a dog's overall health, as bacteria from the mouth can spread to the rest of the body. Regular dental care is therefore an important part of keeping your dog healthy and happy.
How do you care for your dog's teeth?
There are several ways to ensure good oral hygiene in your dog, and the best results are often achieved by a combination of several methods.
Brushing teeth
The most effective way to keep your dog's teeth clean is to brush them regularly. Use a toothbrush specifically designed for dogs. For the best oral hygiene, daily brushing is recommended, and preferably at least 3 times a week. You don't need to brush as thoroughly as you would your own teeth, but get all the way around – especially the large molars at the back, where problems often start.

For optimal effect, we recommend using a toothpaste specially developed for dogs.

Prevents plaque and tartar and combats bad breath. It contains natural minerals that help protect teeth and strengthen enamel.
Dental sticks and chew bones
Dental sticks
An excellent solution for daily dental care. They help reduce plaque while freshening your dog's breath. Dental sticks are an easy and tasty way to maintain good oral hygiene, especially if your dog is not keen on brushing their teeth.
Hard chew bones
A natural and effective way to reduce plaque and tartar. By chewing, your dog stimulates saliva production, which contributes to healthy oral hygiene. We recommend chew bones that last a long time , as they give your dog something to work with over time, while also mechanically cleaning their teeth.
Make dental care a good experience
Not all dogs love having their teeth brushed, but you can make the experience more positive by starting slowly and rewarding your dog along the way. Use extra tasty treats or chew bones as rewards during or after brushing, and make sure to make it a calm and pleasant routine.

Regular check-ups at the vet
While daily dental care at home is important, you should also have your dog's teeth checked regularly by your veterinarian. They can detect early dental problems that you may not have noticed yourself. Some veterinarians offer free dental checkups.
