Congratulations on your puppy!
This guide is for those of you who need to choose equipment for a puppy that is expected to weigh between 10-20 kg as an adult.
We have compiled a practical list of everything you will need, as well as a number of relevant products for this particular size dog.
Dogs in this weight class require equipment that is neither too heavy nor too bulky. At the same time, it is an advantage that leashes, collars and harnesses can be adjusted to suit the puppy's growth - and still be able to withstand a stronger dog as it grows.
Puppy collar
When choosing a collar for your puppy, it's important that the buckle isn't too big or heavy. The collars we've collected here are designed with lightweight snap buckles that make it easy to put on and take off. They're also adjustable so they grow with your puppy as they grow.
Puppy lines
When choosing a leash for your puppy, it is important to take into account how robust a breed you have chosen, and whether it is the large male from the litter, or the smallest female, that is moving into your home.
If your puppy is expected to weigh over 15 kg as an adult and is not among the smallest in the litter, you can already choose a regular adult leash - a puppy of this size can typically carry it well.
If, on the other hand, you have a puppy that will weigh between 10-15 kg as an adult, you should go for a lighter leash so that it doesn't become too heavy for your little puppy. It's about finding a leash that suits both size and strength – both now and as your puppy grows.
Puppy harness
We often recommend the Curli harness as the first harness for puppies, as most puppies find security in the large surface area and the fact that it does not have to be over the head, see the harness here .
If your puppy is at the larger end of the scale, it will typically grow quite quickly - it may therefore be an advantage to choose a harness that can be adjusted a little more.
The dog bed for the medium dog
You can easily choose a dog basket that your dog can use both as a puppy and an adult. To make the basket more cozy and safe for your puppy, you can fill it with soft blankets so that it doesn't feel too big.
We have put together a few good suggestions for you. A medium-sized dog will often fit a dog bed in size S or M, depending on the breed and your puppy's preferences.
Puppy toys
It creates an incredible amount of self-confidence in your puppy when he can move the toy around himself - our tip is therefore to go for something that is completely easy.
Puppy treats and puppy food
Food: For a puppy of this size, we recommend Acana's Puppy & Junior food, see it here - or Orijen's puppy food, see it here.
Treats:
Puppies can have a big appetite and crave all kinds of treats, but it can be an advantage to choose something that can be broken into smaller pieces so that your puppy doesn't have to spend the whole day on the same treat. We've collected a few varieties here.
Bowls for water and food
Choose a small bowl for food and a slightly larger bowl for water so that there is always plenty of water available for your puppy.
