Congratulations on your puppy!
This guide is for you who need to choose equipment for a puppy that will weigh +20 kg as an adult.
We've put together a handy list of everything you'll need, as well as a number of relevant products that are perfect for large puppies.
Puppies of this size grow extremely quickly compared to smaller breeds, and therefore it is important that the equipment is not too heavy, but at the same time is durable enough to withstand a strong and energetic puppy that is quickly growing.
Collar
When choosing a collar for your puppy, we recommend that you choose a collar that doesn't weigh too much and that has a snap buckle so that you can easily take it on and off, and that it expands as your puppy grows.
Lines
When it comes to leashes, it's important to be aware of how robust a breed your puppy is. You should be able to keep the leash on for a long time (if you take good care of it), so you should choose according to how strong your dog is, and will be before it 'naturally' learns to walk nicely on a leash.
Puppy harness
Your puppy will be on the large end of the scale, so it will typically grow quite quickly, so it may be an advantage to choose a harness that is adjustable and made of a sturdy material.
The dog bed for the big dog
You can easily choose a dog basket that your dog can use both as a puppy and an adult. To make the basket more cozy and safe for your puppy, you can fill it with soft blankets so that it doesn't feel too big.
We have put together a few good suggestions for you. A large dog will often fit a dog bed in size M or L, depending on the breed and your puppy's preferences.
Toys for puppies
It creates an incredible amount of self-confidence in your puppy when he can move the toy around himself - our tip is therefore to go for toys that are not too heavy.
Treats and food:
Food: For a puppy of this size we recommend Acana's Puppy Large breed, see it here - or Orijen's puppy large breed, see it here. For the really large breeds it is important to choose food according to
Treats:
Puppies can have a big appetite and crave all kinds of treats, but it can be an advantage to choose something that can be broken into smaller pieces so that your puppy doesn't have to spend the whole day on the same treat. We've put together a few varieties here:
Bowls for water and food
Choose a slightly larger bowl for water so that there is always plenty of water available for your puppy.
