It's no secret that the dog bags you buy from us are significantly more expensive than the ones you can buy in your local supermarket. We would therefore like to tell you a little about why we have chosen to only sell biodegradable dog bags.
In Hunni we sell biodegradable bags from The Sustainable People - a German company that is pretty nerdy when it comes to how we can reduce the environmental impact of plastic. We will try to convey the most important key points, but you can always read more on their website. We link to it here:

When the bag is produced
Biodegradable is a word that is unfortunately used relatively loosely in the plastics industry. Because at some point, plastic will also decompose - the number of years is just long. When The Sustainable People talks about biodegradable bags, they are bags with a degradability face of less than 12 months in dry environments (such as a container) and less than 3 months in nature.
In addition, the bags we sell are also made of bioplastic, which means that they are made from raw materials, such as grains, which are used to soften the bioplastic rather than polyethylene and genetically modified substances, which are used in normal plastic to make the plastic pliable.
The bags are both made of bioplastic and biodegradable - it is far from always the case that the two things are related, but they are two things that are essential for taking care of the environment.
When the bag is left on the ground:
We know that the vast majority of people who invest in our planet by buying biodegradable bags are also not the ones who leave the bags in nature. But if you lose a bag, or give a bag to a dog owner on your way who ends up throwing it away, the difference between a regular plastic dog bag and a biodegradable dog bag is quite big. The biodegradable bag from the sustainable people will be 100% dissolved after about 3 -6 months, depending on the environment it is thrown into. A regular plastic bag, on the other hand, will take 10 -100 years to decompose - a long period during which it can harm animals that eat or get stuck in the plastic bag, where the bag puts a strain on the ecosystem in which it is thrown, among other things due to microplastics.
When the bag is thrown in the trash
But what is the advantage when, as a responsible dog owner, you throw the biodegradable dog bag in the trash?
When the dog bag is thrown away, its composting will begin. It will most likely still be intact when it is picked up by a garbage truck and incinerated, but during incineration it will only release the amount of CO₂ that was used to make the biodegradable bag. With the bags from The Sustainable People, this is significantly less than with a regular plastic bag.
