What are dogs intolerant of?

You've probably heard that there are some foods that are toxic to your dog - and it's true.

Why can't my dog eat the above?

Chocolate
The substance in chocolate that is toxic to dogs is called theobromine. Cocoa, cooking chocolate and dark chocolate have the highest amounts. Milk chocolate and white chocolate have the lowest.

Onions and leeks
Onions of all kinds, and especially garlic, contain substances that can affect your dog's blood cells. Large quantities can poison the dog.

Grapes and raisins
All types of raisins and grapes can cause acute kidney failure in dogs. The amount a dog can tolerate and whether it is affected at all is very individual and also depends on the size of the dog.

Avocado
Contains persin, which is toxic to dogs and can affect both the mammary glands and the heart.

Mushrooms
Many species are less suitable for dogs and some fungi can be downright deadly.

Coffee, tea and energy drinks
Can affect a dog's nerve system, which does not benefit from caffeine - even in the form of a refreshing energy drink. Tea and cola contain theobromine, as does chocolate.

Blue cheese
Blue cheese and Roquefort cheese contain the fungus Roquefortin, which is a mycotoxin to which dogs are sensitive.

Nuts
Nuts often have a very high content of fungal spores, are often very salty, and can potentially get stuck in the throat. Macadamia nuts are directly toxic to dogs.

Salt
Salt, as we know, binds fluid in the body. Therefore, dogs can get salt poisoning if they consume high doses.

Raw Potato
Unripe, raw and green potatoes, as well as the green leaves of the potato plant and potato apples, contain the toxins solanine and chaconine. This is highly toxic for your dog to ingest

Raw tomato
Like potatoes, tomatoes contain the substance solanine, which is toxic to dogs. However, the substance is mainly found in the green parts of the tomato plant (stem, leaves and immature fruits).

Sweets, alcohol and tobacco
It may go without saying, but we've included them anyway, just in case.
