Maintenance
It is recommended to brush a Maltipoo at least 3 times a week and bathe it at least once a month to keep the coat healthy, clean, and free of mats.
Brushing
The Maltipoo's soft, wavy, or curly coat requires regular grooming to prevent tangles and mats.
When brushing, it's important to use tools that are gentle on both the coat and skin. After brushing, the coat should always be combed through to ensure that any hidden knots and mats are completely removed down to the skin.
Clipping
Maltipoos typically need regular clipping to keep their coat easy to maintain and free of mats.
Many choose a soft "teddy bear" clip with rounded shapes, which highlights the breed's cute expression. In professional grooming, clippers are often used for the basic shape, after which the coat is adjusted and rounded with scissors.
Areas around the eyes, paws, and intimate areas should be kept well-groomed for comfort and hygiene.
Special attention
Light-colored Maltipoos may be prone to tear staining around the eyes due to tear production. Regular cleaning of the eye area helps keep the area clean and tidy.
Also pay special attention to areas behind the ears, on the chest, in the armpits, and on the legs, where mats can easily form.
Recommended grooming visits
A professional grooming visit every 6-8 weeks is recommended, depending on the desired coat length. The longer the coat, the more frequently the dog should visit the salon.
To keep the light coat clean and well-maintained, bathing at least once a month is also recommended.
Brushes for Maltipoos
The Maltipoo's soft, curly, or wavy coat is ideal for the characteristic teddy bear clips, but requires regular grooming to stay free of mats and knots.
Weekly – and preferably more frequent – brushing with a slicker brush and a comb helps maintain the coat's airy texture and prevents tangles. Areas such as behind the ears, under the legs, on the chest, and around the collar or harness often require extra attention, as the fur can mat more easily there.
If knots or initial tangles occur, a detangling spray can be a great help. It softens the coat and makes it easier to comb out the knots without unnecessary pulling on the fur.

Shampoo and Conditioner for Maltipoos
Regular baths help keep a Maltipoo clean and free from dirt and unwanted odors.
A bath about once a month helps keep both skin and coat in optimal condition. A conditioner after bathing is particularly important for the curly or wavy coat, as it helps prevent tangles, maintains the coat's structure, and adds shine and moisture.

Clipping a Maltipoo
The Maltipoo's coat grows continuously and therefore requires regular clipping to remain healthy, well-groomed, and free of mats.
Many choose a soft "teddy bear" clip with rounded shapes, which highlights the breed's cute expression and maintains the coat's fullness. Regular clipping also makes daily grooming easier and more comfortable for the dog.
Most Maltipoos are clipped every 6-8 weeks, depending on coat length and desired appearance.
Typical areas for clipping are:
• Body and legs to keep the coat at a practical length
• Around the eyes for better visibility
• Paws for better hygiene and footing
• Around the intimate area for increased comfort and cleanliness
• Face and head to maintain a soft and harmonious expression

General for Maltipoos
Ears: The Maltipoo's floppy ears should be checked and cleaned regularly to prevent the accumulation of earwax, moisture, and irritation. Good ear hygiene is important to avoid discomfort and ear problems.
Teeth: Regular brushing helps prevent tartar, which is one of the most common causes of dental problems in dogs. Chew toys and dental treats can be a good supplement to daily dental care.
Skin and coat: Maltipoos can be sensitive to the sun and prolonged sun exposure. Ensure access to shade on warm days and protect exposed areas as needed. Since paw pads and nose are not protected by fur, they require extra care and moisture to maintain their suppleness and prevent dryness and cracks.

Nail Clippers for Maltipoo
Maltipoos are a small dog breed that require regular nail care to ensure good comfort and natural movement patterns.
Small dog nail clippers provide good control and make it easier to trim nails safely and precisely.
It is important to check the nails regularly, as they don't always wear down sufficiently naturally – especially in dogs that primarily walk on soft surfaces.
