Grooming a Papillon

Maintenance
It is recommended to brush the coat 2–3 times a week to prevent tangles and keep it clean. Baths should be given every 4–6 weeks with products suitable for the coat type.
Brushing
The long, silky coat requires regular brushing to avoid knots and remove accumulated dirt.
Trimming
Trimming is not necessary, but the coat can be lightly trimmed around the paws and ears for better hygiene.
Special attention:
It is important to regularly check and clean the ears, as their shape can easily collect dirt. Additionally, it is recommended to keep an eye on the paws and rear to keep the area free of tangles.
Recommended grooming visits
Professional bathing and brushing every 4–6 weeks, as well as checking ears, nails, and paw pads.
Brushes for Papillon
Papillons have a long and fine coat that requires frequent brushing to prevent tangles – especially behind the ears and on the legs.
It is recommended to use a soft brush or a metal comb that glides easily through the coat without damaging it.
During shedding periods, it is important to increase brushing frequency to keep the coat beautiful and healthy.

Shampoo and conditioner for Papillon
It is recommended to bathe your Papillon every 4–6 weeks with a mild shampoo tailored to its skin and coat type.
Conditioner can be beneficial to facilitate subsequent coat care and maintain coat moisture.
It is important to completely dry the coat after bathing, paying special attention to areas with dense fur.
Trimming a Papillon
The Papillon has a fine, silky coat without a dense undercoat, which falls lightly and naturally around the body. The coat generally does not require actual trimming, as the breed's expression is characterized by the elegant fringes on the ears, tail, and legs.
Coat care is therefore primarily about maintenance rather than formal trimming. Light trimming can be beneficial to keep the coat neat and functional in everyday life. This applies especially around the paws and paw pads, where the coat can be kept shorter, as well as around the rear for better hygiene.
The longer coat areas on the ears, tail, and legs should generally be preserved, but can be gently adjusted with scissors to emphasize the dog's natural lines and ensure a well-groomed appearance. Light and regular trimming is often enough to keep the coat healthy, airy, and easy to manage.

General care for Papillon
It is important to pay attention to the ears, as Papillons have large, open ears where dust and dirt can still accumulate. Regular checks and gentle cleaning help keep the ears clean and prevent irritation.
Dental care is an important part of daily grooming, as small breeds like the Papillon can be more prone to dental problems. Regular toothbrushing helps prevent tartar and contributes to a healthy mouth and fresh breath.

Nail clippers for Papillon
The Papillon is a small dog with delicate nails, which requires nail clippers of a smaller and precise size to trim them safely.
Smaller nail clippers provide better control and make it easier to trim in small, careful steps. This reduces the risk of hitting the quick and ensures a clean and neat result.
Choose small nail clippers suitable for small breeds to achieve the best possible precision and confidence during trimming.
