Maintenance
The Whippet has a very short and fine coat that lies close to the body and therefore requires minimal maintenance. It is recommended to brush the coat once a week to remove loose hair and maintain its natural shine. Bathing can be done every 4-6 weeks or as needed.
Brushing
For coat care, it is usually sufficient to use a rubber or soft brush. This helps to remove loose hair without irritating the skin. At the same time, brushing stimulates the skin and distributes the coat's natural oils.
Clipping
A whippet does not need clipping, as its coat naturally remains short. Coat care primarily consists of regular brushing and possibly light trimming around the paws or other areas for hygiene reasons.
Special attention
Whippets have thin and sensitive skin, which can be more prone to minor scratches and irritations. It is therefore a good idea to regularly check their skin, especially after play and activity. Also keep an eye on their ears, nails, and paw pads.
Recommended grooming visits
A bath every 4-6 weeks is often sufficient. In addition, a grooming visit every 6-8 weeks can be a good opportunity to have their nails, ears, skin, and general coat care checked.

• Around the paw pads for better traction
• Around the tail or hindquarters as needed
As whippets have very thin and sensitive skin, all grooming should be done gently and carefully.
General for Whippets
Ears: Regular cleaning of the ears helps prevent the accumulation of dirt and earwax, which can lead to irritation.
Eyes: Watch for any tearing or debris around the eyes and clean the area as needed to keep it clean and comfortable.
Teeth: Good oral hygiene is important to prevent tartar and dental problems. Regular brushing or dental care products can help keep teeth and gums healthy.
Paw pads, nose, and skin: After walks, runs, and other physical activity, it's a good idea to check the paw pads and skin for minor scrapes, irritations, or dry areas. Whippets have thin and sensitive skin, which requires a little extra attention. It is also recommended to keep both paw pads and nose moisturized to prevent dryness and cracking, especially during very active periods or in cold and hot weather.
