Maintenance
It is recommended to brush the coat once a week and to bathe the dog approximately once a month.
Brushing
Weekly brushing helps minimize shedding in the home. It is important to use products and tools that do not damage your Chow Chow's coat or skin.
Clipping
The Chow Chow has a coat that renews itself seasonally, leading to shedding of old fur. Therefore, the coat should not be clipped short, but instead maintained with regular brushing and light shaping with scissors.
Special attention
Be sure to protect the nose and paw pads from drying out to avoid cracks that can lead to sores.
Recommended grooming visits
The breed should be professionally groomed every 8–12 weeks, depending on the extent of shedding. Visits may be more frequent in spring and autumn when coat change is greatest. Additionally, it is recommended to bathe the dog monthly to maintain healthy skin and coat.
