It moisturizes and nourishes the coat, helps remove dead hairs during shedding, and cares for the skin, creating a healthy foundation for a strong and shiny coat from root to tip.
If bathing is not possible, dry shampoo or rinse-free products are a good solution for a quick freshen-up.
Clipping a Golden Retriever
Golden Retrievers have a double coat with both guard hairs and an undercoat, which naturally protects them from weather and temperature. Therefore, the coat should not be clipped short or shaved, as this can destroy the coat's function and make it harder for the dog to regulate its body temperature.
Coat care is instead about maintenance and light trimming. It is common to trim with scissors around the paws, between the paw pads, and at the hindquarters to ensure good hygiene and a neat appearance.
The longer coat areas on the legs, tail, chest, and behind the ears can also be gently shaped with scissors to highlight the dog's natural lines, without removing too much length.
Regular brushing and removal of loose undercoat are more important than clipping, as this helps keep the coat healthy, reduces shedding, and preserves its natural protective properties.
