Samoyed Clipping
Samoyeds have a very dense double coat with both soft undercoat and longer guard hairs that protect against both cold and heat. Therefore, the coat should not be clipped short or shaved, as it can destroy its natural insulating properties and affect the dog's ability to regulate temperature.
Instead, coat care focuses on thorough brushing and removing loose undercoat. Light trimming can, however, be beneficial to keep the coat neat and functional in everyday life – especially around the paws, between the paw pads, and at the hindquarters for better hygiene.
The longer coat areas on the legs, tail, and around the body should be preserved, but can be gently shaped with scissors to give a well-groomed and natural look.
Regular care and correct maintenance are more important than clipping, as it ensures that the coat remains healthy, airy, and retains its protective properties.

General care for Samoyeds
Eyes: Samoyeds can be prone to visible tear stains, as their light coat makes discoloration more noticeable. It is recommended to keep the area around the eyes clean by regularly wiping gently with a damp cloth or a mild eye cleaner. This helps prevent discoloration and irritation, keeping the coat neat and clean.
Ears: Clean ears weekly with a suitable ear cleaner to prevent infections.
Teeth: Regular tooth brushing and the use of chew toys can help maintain good oral hygiene.
Paw pads and nose: It is recommended to keep paws and nose moisturized with conditioning balms – especially during cold or dry periods.

Nail clippers for Samoyeds
The Samoyed is a medium to large dog with strong and thick nails, which requires robust nail clippers to be clipped safely and effectively.
A strong nail clipper provides better control and makes it easier to clip nails in calm, precise steps. This reduces the risk of fraying the nail or hitting the quick.
Choose nail clippers suitable for medium to large breeds, preferably with a solid grip and sharp blades, to ensure optimal control and safety during clipping.
